- This study aimed to assess local knowledge in forest management and the dynamics of contiguity between local and non-local wisdom. The study population is the people who live around the forest sub-catchment areas Lengkese, Manimbahoi Village, District Parigi, Gowa Regency. Determination of the respondents conducted by multi-stage purposive sampling method (Stratified sampling) based on the level of social status in the community with the sample selection was based on consideration of (purposeful) in accordance with the objectives of the study. Method of data collection through observation and interview techniques. Interview technique is done using two methods: semi-structured interview (snow ball technique) and structure interviews. Primary data were collected in the form land characteristic use patterns, activities of the community in the forest, local moral values, and social strucutures of society. Secondary data in the form of the physical location, social and climatological data obtained from the office of the Village Manimbahoi and climatological data obtained from Climatological Station Class I Maros. The result showed that there is a relationship of mutual dependence on forests in the sub-watershed Lengkese. Forest for people Lengkese an integral part of their lives, both as a source of water for their daily needs, for irrigation, agriculture and used the result in the form of timber and non-timber forest products for economic purposes. In the use of forest resouces, community Lengkese guided by the the provisions of the ancestirs, appasang (mandate). Based appasang, forest Lengkese divided into three sections, ie Kabbung Pompoa, Tinra Ballia, and Koko. These three forms of the forest can be maintained because there is still value their local wisdom to date. These values, functionally supportive government policies (non-local) even found indication of threats from outsiders who can fade the value of local wisdom in Lengkese.
