- ABSTRACT The role of information technology has never been separated in all aspects of people's daily lives. In its development, information technology is used as a geographic information system. Geographic Information System (GIS) is an information system designed to process spatial or geographic-coordinated reference data. Geographic reference data is obtained by using remote sensing method. Remote sensing is the science and art of obtaining information about an object, area, or phenomenon through an analysis of data obtained by a device without direct contact with the understudy object, area, or phenomenon. By using GIS- based remote sensing method, the spatial characteristics of Sidrap Regency are able to be found. The purposes of this research are: 1. Analyzing the characteristics of road network (road index) based on GIS in Sidrap Regency 2. Analyzing GIS-based demographic form in Sidrap Regency 3. Analyzing GIS-based spatial characteristic in Sidrap Regency with satellite imagery. Execution of this research consists of four stages, i.e preliminary study stage, data preparatory stage, survey and data compilation, as well as data analysis and modeling. Based on the analysis, the longest road network is road network in Pitu Riawa Sub-district with a total length of 275.86 Km. The highest population density in Kecamatan Maritengngae with 20,722 inhabitants/km2. Analysis of spatial characteristics is residential heatmap, contour, slope, 3D appearance, and River Flow area. Analysis of spatial characteristics used satellite imagery is index of vegetation and hydrological index from Sidrap Regency. Spatial characteristics show the appearance of the northern region of Sidrap Regency is hilly with a good vegetation index. While the appearance of the southern region of Sidrap Regency is flat with a high hydrologic index around Lake Sidenreng.
