- Child with mentally retardation or with low intellectual capacity , has a problem with social function . The problems that they have are really complex, such as, nurturing, treatment , self-direction and rehabilitation. Because of that, having a mentally retarded child is the special phenomena for parents. This research uses the methods of interview. There are eight respondents in this research having a mentally retarded child.The interview was held for about August until September 2003. Frorn the research, we could draw a conclusion, parents who have mentally retarded child had a problem with the emotion and the conduct from the child and financial problem. All the parents feeling anxious with the future of the child with mentally retadation. Thus even though half of parents aware about the point of education are really important for mentally retarded children. Because of that mentally retarded children can be autonomous children to live in their society. The factors, which help the parents to adaptation, included support from couple, family community , and religious belief.
