  • Being a physical handicapped caused by accident can bring impacts to one's life. They commonly experiece various emotional reaction, such as shock, fear, anxiety, regarding to their future life. The social stigma in society towards the physical handicapped worsening their problem. Besides the existence of social support, they also need to apply creative and effective ways of coping to handle their emotional problem. This research is aimed at discovering the dynamic of emotional in physical handicapped people and based on the theory of six stages towards emotional wellness from JoAnn LeMaistre. This research used qualitative methods with in-depth interview, which was conducted within two moths, from January 7, 2002 until March 14, 2002 The subjects in this research are two men and woman who suffered from physical handicapped, aged 20-40 years. Four subjects showed the dynamic of emotion begin with crisis, isolation, anger, resconstruction, intermittent depression, and renewal. One of them did not go through anger stage and only two of them reaced the stage of renewal. Three main factors playing role in their struggle towards renewal are self acceptance, social support, and ways of coping. These three factors help subjects to enchance their quality of life.
