  • Caring for dementia requires physically, financially, and emotionally sacrifices. When a husband needed help, the figure that most likely to provide care is wife. This study aims to obtain an overview of resilience in wife who became a caregiver for husband with dementia. Resilience generally refers to positive adaptation in the context of risk or difficulty (Cutuli & Masten, 2009). Resilience needs to be owned by the wife who became a caregiver for husband with dementia in order to survive in the caring situation while taking into account the well-being as an individual. In-depth interviews were administered to three wives who became a caregiver for husband with dementia. The study took place in a span of six months, started in January 2013 until June 2013. Results of this study indicate that the three subjects facing various challenges in caring situations. The first and second subjects are able to meet all the characteristics of resilient personality, but the third subject has not managed to meet the optimism and self-efficacy aspects. Factor of child support and the ability to reach out for help when needed was instrumental in resilience of wife who became a caregiver.
