  • The death of spouse is the most painful experience in family life cycle and also the biggest obstacle for women especially in enduring the single parent role. This research aims to describe resilience in middle adult single parent woman who experienced the death of spouse. “Resilience is the human capacity to face, overcome, be strengthened by and even be transformed by experiences of adversity” (Grotberg, 1999, p.3). Women who lost their spouse need to build resilience to overcome the grieving process and then move forward as a single parent. The method called in-depth interview was conducted towards four middle adult women (aged from 43 to 48 years old) who lost their spouse and endure the role of single parent. This study lasted for five months, started from February 2011 until June 2011. The result shows that the four subjects faced challenges after the loss of spouse. Generally, the four subjects succeed in building resilience to overcome their grief and move forward as a single parent.
