- The shape of the city becomes an indicator of human culture and civilization. Based on Cohen (2001), there are two things that should be recognized as characteristics of the historic district, namely: Aesthetic quality (human pleasure) and quality of history associated with the cultural symbol. Establishment of a spatial system physically is not separated from non physical aspects, such as: the norms, functions, and activities of the community. Both come to strengthen each other in creating a sense of place. While the Chinese community thriving because it has a key role in the economic system.
