- The study aim to provide an overview of the motivation of a young adulthood men who have a romantic relationship with a single parent woman. Motivation is the underlying reason for an act committed by an individual (Maslow, 1970). Single parent is an individual who has got married or not, and have one or more children (De Genova & Stinnett, 2011). The research uses descriptive qualitative method performed on five young adulthood men aged 22 to 30 years old and have a romantic relationship with a single parent woman. Results of the study indicate that the five subjects had a variety of motivations in living a romantic relationship with a single parent woman. The five subjects had a romantic relationship with a single parent woman because they’re motivated by the fulfillment of physiological needs, love and belonging needs, and safety needs. Based on the source of motivation, these five subjects have intrinsic motivation in a relationship with single parent woman, namely the encouragement from themselves to have a romantic relationship.
