- This research was based on theory of parenting style, self-esteem, and quality of friendship. Parenting style influences the relationship between self-esteem and quality of friendship of teenager. Friends among teenager have a big impact to the psychosocial development of a teenager. The relationship between friends was shown through the quality of friendship. This research intends to know the role of parenting style to the relationship between self-esteem and quality of friendship of adolescent. The research design was to analyze the participants attentively. The participants were 179 students of SMP. X. Participants were divided into four types of parenting style. The data was analyzed by Univariate Analysis of Variance or ANCOVA. Results showed no significant effects of parenting style to the relationships of self-esteem and quality of friendship (p = 0.140 > 0.05) and the significants correlations between self-esteem and quality of friendship (p = 0. 0.017 < 0.05). Thus the results showed that parenting style doesn’t have a big role in the relationship between self-esteem and quality of friendship.
