- The aims of this research are to discern the earnings and expenditure quantity of farmer household house necessity, the proportion of food expenditure to the total of farmer household, energy and protein consumption of farmer household, the relation between the proportion of food expenditure with farmer household energy consumption and condition farmer household food security in Kulon Progo by indicating the proportion of food expenditure and the level of energy consumption. The basic method in this research is descriptive analysis. This research is taken place in Kulon Progo Regency. The method of choosing the area is done by purposive sampling i.e. in Donomulyo Village, Wijimulyo Village and Kembang Village Nanggulan Subdistrict. The data are primary and secondary one. Collecting data is done by using observation, interview, noting, and recall methods. The analysis of data involves the earnings and expenditure of farmer household, proportion of food expenditure to the total expenditure farmer household, energy and protein consumption of farmer household, the relation between the proportion of food expenditure with farmer household energy consumption and condition farmer household food security. The result of this research shows that the average of farmer household earnings quantity in Kulon Progo Regency is Rp 1.593.513,89, which consists of earnings from the work as farmers Rp 746.847,22 and earnings outside the work as farmers Rp 846.666,67. The expenditure of farmer household is Rp 1.289.601,91 and this amount is measured by proportion of food expenditure to the total expenditure is 60,00%, it means that the food consumption still takes a big part of total expenditure farmer household in Kulon Progo Regency. The average of Energy Consumption Level Tingkat Konsumsi Energi (TKE) 85,17%, it is concluded as mid level. He average of Protein Consumption Tingkat Konsumsi Protein (TKP) 94,41%, it is in a mid level. Proportion of food expenditure with energy consumption has significant relation. The number of correlation co-efficience is negative, i.e. -0,426 shows that the relation beween proportion of food expenditure with energy consumption is contradictory, meaning if proportion of food expenditure is high, energy consumption will be low. Condition of food security of the farmer household in Kulon Progo consists of vulnerable food category is 43,33%, food security 30,00%, food insecurity 16,67% and less food 10,00%.
