The Farmer Group Association (Gapoktan) as a farmer’s social-economic institution becomes important in improving the farmers’ production as well as life prosperity, through which the farmer can improve their bargaining position in both marketing their produce and procuring the production input needed. With Gapoktan, the farmers more easily interacts positively related the learning process in order to improve the quality of their human resource, And the presence of Gapoktan in rural area with a variety of business units operated also open the job field and the income source to the member farmer or the people surrounding. The research on the Role of Agricultural Illuminator in the Farmer Group Association (Gapoktan) Development of Tempuran Village Paron Subdistrict Ngawi Regency aims to study: the role of agricultural illuminator in the farmer group association development, the obstacles in the attempt of Gapoktan development and the supporting factors in the gapoktan development in Tempuran Village Paron Subdistrict Ngawi Regency. This study employed a qualitative method with a single case study technique. The research location was selected deliberately in Tempuran Village Paron Subdistrict Ngawi Regency, considering that Paron Subdistrict is the area with high rice commodity production level supported by the farming natural resource potency and has active gapoktan with the greatest number of farmer groups. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling; the subject of research consisted of the Coordinator of Field Farming Illuminator, Field Farming Illuminator, Chief of Gapoktan, Secretary of Gapoktan, Treasurer of Gapoktan and members of Gapoktan in Tempuran Village Paron Subdistrict. The informant employed in this research were the chief of Tempuran Village, Chief of Farming Division, society figure, agribusiness performer and farmers in Tempuran Village, Paron Subdistrict. Technique of collecting data used was FGD (Focus Group Discussion), in-depth interview, content analysis including documentation, and observation. In order to test the quality of data obtained the research employed two triangulation techniques: source and method triangulation. The data analysis in this research included the data reduction, display and conclusion (verification). Considering the result of research, it can be concluded that: the Field Farming Illuminator from BP3K (Farming, Fishery, and Forestry Illumination Agency) of Paron Subdistrict operating in Tempuran village area, in the attempt of Gapoktan Tani Maju development has undertaken its task as mentioned in the guidelines of farmer group and Gapoktan growing and developing of 2007. There are two types of obstacles in developing Gapoktan Tani Maju: internal obstacle including routine meeting of Gapoktan has not been maximal because such meeting is carried out in the night, non-maximal details of financial administration, limited capital so that the development of Gapoktan business unit is less maximal. The external obstacle encountered includes the limited Gapoktan partnership link with outsider. The supporting factor of Gapoktan development is the government policy in the form of capital grant, training for the Gapoktan administrators, as well as the farming illumination. The effect of farming illuminator in Gapoktan development is that Gapoktan can develop the business unit and improve the Gapoktan administrator’s competency.
