  • The goal of this research is to improve students aritmatic ability by applying contextual approach for student in first grade of Puhgogor 01 Elementary School, Bendosari Sukoharjo in 2010. Variable of the research is aritmatic ability and application of contextual approach. The approach form are qualitative descriptive and class action approach. This research pass through four steps, namely: planning, action, observation and reflecting and they are done repeatedly. Tehnique for collecting data include: observation, interview and test. Observation is used as basis on further research. It’s about student’s activities in learning. Interview is used to collect, to reveal student’s learning motivations, purpose andexplanation of respondent. Test is done to measure student’s result learning. Data analysis technique pass through work hypothesis, data reduction, categorizing, synthesize and making conclusion. Based on the result of the research above it can conclude that application of contextual approach in learning process can improve student’s aritmatic ability in first grade of Puhgogor 01 Elementary School, Bendosari Sukoharjo. It’s proven by the result of pretest before the class action, first cycle, second cycle and third cycle. They show the average: 49,65 to 65,86 to 69,65 to 78,62. There are significant improvement in percentage of student’s achievement in learning from pretest, first cycle, second cycle and third cycle, namely: 37,93% to 65,51% to 79,31% and 93,10%.
