- This research is a Class Action Research. The subjects of this study were students grade VIII.A SMP N 1 East Luwu Regency, namely 35 students consisting of 20 female students and 15 male students. The purpose of this research is the purpose of this study is to improve (1) the ability of Mathematics Connections of Grade VIII.A students at SMP Negeri 1 Towuti Luwu Timur 2017/2018 Academic Year during mathematics learning activities with the approach of Open Ended approach and (2) Creative Thinking Ability of grade VIII.A grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Towuti Luwu Timur 2017/2018 Academic Year during mathematics learning activities with the application of the Open Ended approach. The conclusion of this study is the STAD type cooperative model with the open ended approach to positive change influenced by the activities of students and the teacher's ability to manage learning where the teacher gives further action students receive or take action. For aspects (1) the relationship between concepts in mathematics, the percentage of students' ability from cycle I to cycle II increase 18.82%. For aspects (2) the relationship between mathematics and other fields of science, the percentage of students' ability from cycle I to cycle II increase 3.47%. For aspects (3) the relationship between mathematics and daily life, the percentage of students' ability to increase from cycle I and cycle II increase 2.06%. In connection with the ability to think creatively, for aspects (1) smooth thinking skills, the percentage of students' ability from cycle I to cycle II increase 2.77%. For aspects (2) flexible thinking skills, students' ability from cycle I to cycle II increase 3.08%. For aspects (3) the ability to think originally, the percentage of students' ability cycle I and cycle II increase 7.12%. The response given by students in the implementation of mathematics learning using STAD type cooperative learning model, Susana class, interest in learning, teacher teaching methods, facilities and infrastructure on average is in the good, happy and interesting category.
