- This paper discusses the role of institutions in economic and institutional conditions in Indonesia. The first discussed the institutional development and its role in the economy. Second discussed the institutional conditions in Indonesia compared to other ASEAN countries. Third discussed about building effective institutions. The conclusion of this study is the first institutions have a major role in the economy. Second institutional development in Indonesia is still very weak, based on the corruption perception index. Indonesian corruption perception index score in 2010 only 2.8 of the value scale of 0-10. Third to build an effective institutional to note is that the institution was built to improve access in the community, to encourage competition in the economy, complementing existing institutions, provide innovation in existing institutions.
