AN ITEM ANALYSIS OF SCHOOL EXAM TEST OF ENGLISH: A STUDY AT THE THIRD YEAR STUDENTS OF SMKN 1 LINGSAR ACADEMIC YEAR 2016/2017

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the quality of test items of school exam of English at the third year student of SMKN 1 Lingsar in term of the level difficulty, discriminating power and distractors effectiveness of the distractors. This research is a quantitative study. The data were taken from 221 students’ answer sheets. The data were analyzed by using Anates V.4.0.9. The result of this research were as follows, based on the analysis of level of difficulty, the test was categorized into Difficult level of Difficulty since 17 items (49%) categorized into moderate level of difficulty. 6 items (17%) were categorized into difficult level of difficulty and 12 items (34%) were categorized into very difficult level of difficulty. Based on the analysis of discriminating power,the test was categorized into Poor category since 6 items (17%) categorized into worst category, 22 items (63%) were categorize into poor category, 5 items (14%) were categorized into moderate category and 2 items (6%) were categorize into good category of discriminating power. The last, the distractor of the test was categorized into Very good category since 32 (30%) distractors categorized into very good category, 35 (33%) distractors were categorized into good category, 21 (20%) distractors were categorized into moderate category, 10 (10%) disctractors were categorized into poor category and 7 (7%) distractors were categorized into worst category.
