- This thesis is entitled “Teacher’s Strategies in Teaching English Vocabulary (A Case Study at Second Grade of Language Class of SMAN 1 Jonggat Academic Year 2014/2015). This study is aimed to find out (a) teacher’s strategy in teaching English vocabulary, (b) media used by the teacher and (c) problem faced by the teacher in teaching vocabulary. The study was conducted in language class of SMAN 1 Jonggat. The subject of the research was a teacher in language class that consists of 30 students. The data were gathered by using observation, questionnaire and interview and analyzed by using descriptive qualitative method. The study found that the teacher’s strategy in teaching English vocabulary was Vocabulary Self-collection Strategy (VSS). It was implemented by using games, conventional media and vocabulary handout to motivate the students’ activities in the class. The strategy motivated students to be active and interested in following the teaching and learning process.
