- This thesis is entitled “The Analysis of Psychological Conflict and Characterization of The Main Character “Bella Swan” in Twilight a Novel by Stephenie Meyer.” The study focused on psychological conflict and caharacterization of Bella Swan as the main character in Stephenie Meyer novel entitled TWILIGHT. The method used in the analysis of the novel is descriptive analytic method. This study described or interpreted the condition or situation of the main character. The data were derived from the conversation, paragraph, statement, dialogues, and events in the story which had relation to Bella Swan’s psychological conflicts. In this study the writer uses Sigmund Freud theory about Id, Ego, and Superego in analyze the characterization of Bella Swan. The result of this study shows that there are three kinds of psychological conflicts faced by Bella which influences her characterization. The conflicts that she has to deal with are classified into three kinds. First, Man against himself. The term refers to the psychological problem inside the main character mind, such as a desire or moral dilemma. Second, Man against man. It means the character is somehow collided with another person or a person in a story. Third, Man against society. It means the character may be in conflict with some external force-physical nature or society.
