- This research aims at describing the characteristics of main characters, and types of each character in the novel A New Song by Jan Karon. The purpose of this research is to find out the characteristics of the main characters. The data of this research were gathered through library research from the novel A New Song by Jan Karon as a primary resource of the data and secondary data also taken from other resources such as some articles and books that related to the topic and also from internet. The writer used descriptive method to describe the data. Some important results were found in this research that the main characters in the novel are a priest and his wife. The main characters in the story are taken from the protagonist. Jan Karon characterized the characters in the novel using an indirect characterization method. The conflict in the story is how the main characters defeating their ego.
