  • This study aimed at examining the effectiveness of drama in speaking skill. Population of this study was the eleventh grade students of SMAN 7 Mataram in academic year 2014/2015, the samples of this study were taken by using cluster random sampling technique. The writer determined XI IPA5 as experimental group and XI IPA2 as control group. The writer administered oral test (pre-test and post-test) to obtain the data. The mean score of experimental group was 14.2 with the square deviation 2954.and the mean score of control group was 7.4 with the square deviation 986. The findings of the research showed that the score of experimental group was higher than control group. Then the hypothesis was examined using t-test to determine whether the effectiveness of drama in speaking skill. The result of t-test (2.63) is higher than t-table (2.39) a the confidence level .01 (99%), and t-table (1.67) at the confidence level .05 (95%). So Ho is rejected and Ha accepted. This result answered the research question that the use of drama in teaching speaking is effective.
