  • The research is aimed to find out the students’ ability in comprehending written texts. The participant of this study is Eleventh grade students of SMA IT Abu Hurairah Mataram. This study is descriptive qualitative research. Qualitative method was used because the researcher believes that this method was suitable to answer the research questions as to find out Finding out the students’ ability in comprehending written text and strategies used by the students in comprehending the text in the process of reading. And for the reading strategies, they can be categorized into several kind as well as the kinds of reading. They are reading for information, reading for purpose, reading for pleasure, effective reading, survey reading, intensive reading and strategies with bottom-up and top-down reading understanding system.
