- This study attempts to investigate the strategies used by high and low achiever students at third semseter students of English department University of Mataram in academic year 2017/2018. The data in the present study were collected through document analysis and questionnaire. Through study document the researcher collected information about high and low achiever students based on their score grades in academic achievement record (KHS) in second semester. Questionnaire was done to collect the data about learning strategies that students from high and low achiever used. Descriptive method was the method of this study. The result of this study reveals that the most frequently used strategies employed by high achiever students was cognitive strategy. Respondents stated that to improve their reading ability, they practiced the sound of English, watched english TV shows spoken in English or went to English movies and wrote notes, messages, letters or reports in English. The percentage of this was 56,25%. The data analysis shows that most frequenty used strategy by low achiever students was social strategy. They occupied 50%
