- This research analyzes speech acts in a movie entitled Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. The movie was chosen because the phenomenon of speech act which is not only performed in real life but also occurs in the movies. Movies provide many different contexts in a single play through its audio-visual element. The aims of this research are to identify, describe and, analyze the types of speech acts and to analyze the most dominant speech acts produced by the main characters. This research follows the theory of speech acts introduced by J.L. Austin and J.R. Searle as the major theory. The data are taken from the movie and written transcript of the dialogues between the main characters. The result of this research shows that the three types of speech acts were found in this movie such as locutionary, illocutionary and perlocutionary. This study shows that the most dominant speech acts is representatives with 56 utterances (43%), Directives 43 utterances (33%), Expressives 23 (17%) and, Commisives with 9 (7%) utterances. The domination were influenced by some factors such as the plot of the movie and the role of the characters in the movie.
