- The aim of this thesis research is describing Freddie Mercury’s personality through Freddie Mercury’s psychoanalysis. The data of this research were gathered through library research from the movie entitled Bohemian Rhapsody a primary resources such as some books, journal related to the topic which available in the movie and internet. The writer use qualitative descriptive method to describe the data. The data were analyzed by using Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalitical prespective. The results of this study are as follows: (1) the personality of the main character Freddie Mercury consists of Id, Ego, and Superego. Id influences the main character to get his satisfaction in some of the events shown in the Bohemian Rhapsody movie; the ego alleviates the anxieties in the main character and the superego controls Freddie Mercury's attitude. (2) Freddie Mercury's personality is (a) Freddie's life instinct is dominated by Id in the form of passion or libido towards Mary Austin, Paul Prenter and Jim Hutton. (b) The anxiety experienced by Freddie arises when he has AIDS. (c) Freddie's self defense mechanism consists of repression, projection, rationalization, and reaction formation. The defense mechanism is carried out by Freddie to eliminate feelings that disturb his comfort.
