- ABSTRACT This study aims to find out the melancholia by Joanna in Kramer versus Kramer movie. Specifically, this study focus on analyzing the causes of Joanna suffered from a melancholy disorder and the effects of melancholy disorder to Joanna’s life in Kramer versus Kramer movie. This study used the script and scenes/pictures of Kramer versus Kramer movie containing dialogues as the sources of data and it was being analyzed used qualitative descriptive method. Thus, the data were described in the form of words, phrases, and sentences. The results of the study show the causes of Joanna suffered from melancholy disorder in Kramer versus Kramer movie are unhappiness, isolated, miserable and selfish. While the effects of melancholy disorder to Joanna’s life in Kramer versus Kramer movie are searching for self identity, beautiful, guilty, regret and wise.
