The Movie The Notebook”. The data in this study were taken from the movie, based 
on the dialogue and the scene. In this study the writer analyzed the men main 
characters, they were Noah Calhoun and Lon Hammond. The characterization is 
about the main characters’ appearance, personality, word, behavior, thought and 
motivation that describe into direct and indirect presentation. This thesis used 
qualitative approach, in analyzing the characterization the writer used theories from 
Rimmon-Kenan and Abraham Maslow. In this study the writer found personalities in 
the characters. From the analysis the writer concluded that Noah Calhoun is 
confident, reckless, independent and patient. Thus Lon is well-educated, patient, 
confident, charming, cheerful, merciful and mature. Noah Calhoun and Lon 
Hammond have the same motivation to get intention of Allie, but they have different 
social status and differed in some personality. This study was more found indirect 
methods in analyzing characterizations, compared to the direct method such as the
