  • The aims this research is to know the effectiveness of using pictures towards English vocabulary for junior school student: an experimental study second year students at MTs Putra Al-Ishlahuddiny West Lombok, academic year 2010/2011. The scope of study in this study is limited in teaching vocabulary by using pictures especially in “Noun and Verb “.Population of this research is all of the second year students of MTs Al-Ishlahuddiny with the total of sample is 72 divided into two classes, they are grade VIII C as a Control Group and grade VIII A as an Experimental Group. This research used Random Sampling. The instruments of this research are multiple-choice test; they are pre and post-test. The mean score of Experimental Group is 26.00 for pre-test and 64.11for post-test, meanwhile the mean score of Control Group is 30.67 for pre-test and 52.56 for post-test. The data were analyzed statistically by using t-test in the level of significance was 95%. The result shows that the use of pictures is significant towards students’ English vocabulary (t-test 2, 67 > t-table 1, 99).
