  • This research is aimed at finding out the effectiveness of using scenery picture as a teaching media in increasing student’s achievement in descriptive text at the second year students of SMPN 9 Mataram. There were 35 students involved as the sample. The data for the study were gathered through pre-test, post-test and questionnaire. Analysis was quantitative. Before the pre-test, the researcher taught the students with ordinary method by using text. But, the researcher used a scenery picture and different treatment before post-test. Based on the result, it was found that the mean score of pre-test was 39 while that of post-test was 64.12. The deviation of the two means were tested by using t-test formula resulting the figure of 0.01 of 18.5. This figure were consulted the value of t-table which were 2.348 and 2.302. It is higher than t-table which indicates that the use of scenery pictures as a teaching media in teaching descriptive text is effective.
