  • study entitled “Language patterns among Javanese family members at BTN Pepabri-Pagesangan”. The study was conducted to answer the questions; (1) what languages are used by Javanese family members, and (2) what factors influencing the language patterns. Therefore, the study aims at finding the language used by Javanese family members and the factors influencing the patterns of language. The study used some methods and techniques, i.e. questionnaire, observation consisting of participant observation and non-participant observation, and interview. The data were collected by using random sampling in which the samples were taken randomly. The study found that there were two languages used by Javanese family members, namely Indonesian and Javanese including code switching between Javanese and Indonesian. Interestingly, the more dominant language was Indonesian. The interactions among the youth were dominant used Indonesian, the interactions among the elder were more dominant used the code-switching between Javanese and Indonesian, and the interactions between the youth and elder were more dominant used Indonesian. There were three factors influencing the language patterns, i.e setting, age and role-relationships.
