  • This final project is about a correlation study between Indonesian reading ability and English reading ability, a case study at the first year students of SMK DarunnajahDuman in academic year 2010/2011. The objectives of the study are to find out the correlation between Indonesian reading ability and English reading ability, and also to find out what factors affecting the correlation itself. The writer took 31 students as the sample or all the students of the first year students of SMK DarunnajahDuman that consist of 31 students only. Furthermore, the data in this study was gained through testand questionnaire. The students were given 4 reading texts both in Indonesian reading test and English reading test and each reading text contains of 5 questions in the form of multiple choice and 3 in essay. The result of this research shows that there is a correlation between Indonesian reading ability and English reading ability. This result obtained from the computation of variable x (Indonesian reading ability) and variable y (English reading ability) into the formula of Pearson Product Moment. The value of coefficient r is 0.40, which means that the correlation between the two variables is positive, in the range of “average”.However, the correlation was not significant because the value of t-test (0.903) is lower than t-table in both of significant level of 95% and 99%.
