  • Indonesia’s economic development is intended to increase the country’s people welfare, but its disconnection to equality principle causes regional disparities, which eventually leads to mass-poverty. This research aims to reveal the development of poverty and regional disparities, and to analyze the impact of regional disparities to regional GDP, agglomeration, and investment in increasing poverty in Indonesia. Using quantitative and qualitative methods and data from 2004 to 2013, it concludes that from the year 2004 to 2013, poverty level in Indonesia has decreased, in line with the decline in regional disparities. The decrease in regional disparities is indicated by the Williamson Index, and the result of quantitative analysis with a panel regression of data probes that the regional disparities and agglomeration show a positive and significant impact on poverty reduction in the country. In addition, the regional GDP and investment have a negative and significant impact on poverty reduction. Thus, the writer argues, the government should take a crash program to further reduce the regional disparities, a policy which is needed to more reduce mass-poverty in Indonesia.
