  • The character education encouraged by the Ministry of National Education should be supported as it will positively contribute to the creation of reliable human resources, whose intellectuality and morality are balanced. Therefore, it is essential to conduct a study investigating the character education. This article is intended to reveal the values of the character building in the discourse of the leather puppet shadow play performed in Bali in general, and the Joblar leather puppet shadow play performing the theme Tualen Caru. Based on the result of analysis, the values of the character education which are implied in it can be described as follows (1) the character of being aware of; (2) religiousness; (3) tolerance or solidarity; (4) politeness; (5) patriotism; (6) appreciating self culture; (7) being ethic and living a clean life; 8) fostering desire; (9)loving sciences; (10) appreciating others’ work and achievement; and (11) being willing to sacrifice.
