- This research deals with The Effect of Using Explicit Instruction Strategy on the Students’ Critical in Reading Comprehension, especially descriptive text.. The objective of the research was to find the effect of using Explicit Instruction Strategy on the students’ critical in reading descriptive text. This research was conducted at SMP TERBUKA NEGERI 5 MEDAN, Jl. Stasiun Desa Besar, Medan Labuhan, Sumatera Utara in the eight grade of 2017/2018 academic year. The population of this research was the VIII grade students who consisted 3 clases, VIII-1 (30), VIII up to VIII-3 (30), with total 90 students. By using Cluster Random Sampling if was choosen 2 clases, VII-1 (30) and VIII-3 (30), with 60 students. VII-1 class was Experimental group taught by Explicit Instruction Strategy and VIII-3 class was Control group taught by Lecturing Method. Multiple choice test with 10 items were administrated to the students. The researcher gave a pre-test, treatment and post-test to both groups. Having collected the data by using T-test formula, the result shows that t-test was 8,403 and t-table was 2.002. The fact showed that t-test was greather than t-table. (the null hypothesis or Ho was rejected and the alternative hypothesis Ha was accepted). The result of this research concluded thats, there was a significant effect of using Explicit Instruction Strategy on the students’ critical in reading comprehension.
