The research subjects were 32 students of Meranti State Junior High School 1 class. Data collection methods used are observation, testing, and documentation. The act of learning the first cycle of students playing roles based on conversation script. Students do not experience obstacles in linguistic aspects (vocabulary / expressions and sentence structure used) and non-linguistic aspects (courage, friendliness, and attitude). Cycle II is more focused on linguistic aspects (pressure, speech, and tone and rhythm) and non-linguistic aspects (fluency and mastery of matter) which are still lacking. Improvement is indicated by the results of students' speaking skills scores. The increase occurred: (1) the average value of student pre-action by 70.62 rose to 75.46; (2) the average evaluation value of the first cycle was 75.46 with a percentage of completeness of; (3) the average evaluation value of the second cycle is 80.93 with a 88% completeness percentage.&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0; Keywords: role playing, speaking skills&#xA0;&#xA0;Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara melalui metode bermain peran pada siswa kelas SMP Negeri 1 Meranti. Subjek penelitian adalah pada siswa kelas SMP Negeri 1 Meranti yang berjumlah 32 siswa. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi, tes, dan dokumentasi. Tindakan pembelajaran siklus I siswa bermain peran berdasarkan naskah percakapan. Siswa tidak mengalami kendala dalam aspek kebahasaan (kosa kata/ungkapan dan struktur kalimat yang digunakan) dan aspek nonkebahasaan (keberanian, keramahan, dan sikap). Siklus II lebih difokuskan pada aspek kebahasaan (tekanan, ucapan, serta nada dan irama) dan aspek nonkebahasaan (kelancaran dan penguasaan materi) yang masih kurang. Peningkatan ditunjukkan dengan hasil nilai keterampilan berbicara siswa.
