- Land evaluation is a part of land use planning process. The main part of land evaluation is to compare the requirements needed for the land use intended with the land characteristics and qualities. The research aimed to evaluate land suitability for cacao plants in Boantongo village, South Parigi sub district of Parigi Moutong district. The research used a survey method and direct observation in field. Four land units (LU) were determined by overlaying several maps i.e. soil map, topography map and land use map. Soil samples taken within each land unit were purposively determined. Land suitability for each unit was classified according to LREP II (1994) and PPT modified (2003). Results showed that only one land unit had the actual land suitability classified as S2 with water and cation exchange capacity (S2-wf) were the limiting factors. This land unit can potentially be improved to S1 by overcoming its limiting factor through irrigation and organic fertilizing. The remaining three land units were actually classified as S3 with cation exchange capacity was their limiting factor (S-f). Effort can be made to improve the suitability class of these land units to higher class through organic fertilizing.
