  • The point of this writing is the identity and the bond culture values which can be seen in the novel A Good Indian Wife by Anne Cherian. This writing relates to the differences between Indian value and American value through Indian-American immigrant. As immigrant in America, Neel Sarath who has succeeded to get American Dream as an anesthesiologist in San Francisco, has his shiny Porche, his spotless condo and his blonde American girl. In other side, as an Indian Iyengar, he is forced to obey his identity about the arranged marriage which has been prepared by his elders. The more he tries to neglect the rule, the harder he wants to avoid the marriage which finally, he must accept to marry Leila Khrishnan, a local English teacher who is chosen by his elders. Here, Cherian as the author, tries to explain there are still many habitants in India where men or women are still not free to choose what they want to be in the modern life.
