- Abu Lahab is one of prophet Muhammad’s uncle, named ‘Abd al-‘Uzza bin ‘Abd al-Mut}t}alib bin Ha>shim bin ‘Abd Mana>f bin Qus}ay. His efforts in opposing Islamic da’wah were very fierce, against and injure prophet Muhammad SAW, his own nephew. Those were done by his own hands by throwing stones to the prophet when delivering risa>lah al-tauh}i>d in times and places more where Muhammad being a preacher. For his deed, Allah SWT specially called in chapter Tabbat verse 1 (one), which the hands of Abu Lahab will come to the destruction. This destruction not only to his hands but his body thoroughly. However, hand is the word chosen by the Qur'an to be mentioned. This could raise the hypothesis that what is meant by the word “hand” in the intended verse imply not only metaphor but also literal meaning, and hand in the sense of the initial cues of Abu Lahab's destruction process.
