  • The aim of the research was to determine the species of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungus (AMF) compatible to chili (Capsicum annuum L.).  The research was conducted in University Farm of IPB in Cikabayan, Bogor, from December 2005 to June 2006, using Ultisol from Gajrug (Lebak, Banten) in polybag as media (pH 4.2, exchangeable Al 30.08 me/ 100 g and Al saturation 83.81%).  Compatibility test was carried out for 4 indigenous AMF genotypes in Ultisol, namely Glomus manihotis, Glomus etunicatum, Gigaspora margarita and Acaulospora sp. They have been inoculated to aluminum tolerant (PBC 619) and sensitive (Cilibangi 3) genotypes of chili.  The results showed that the highest number of propagules was produced by Gigaspora margarita (223.3 unit propaguls/g media) and the lowest was by Acauspora sp. (91.7 unit propaguls/g media).  The influence of FMA species varied on sensitive genotypes.  Based on infectivity and effectivity, the FMA species Gigaspora margarita was the most compatible to both genotypes.
