  • One of the problems encountered by this foodstuff was the problems on its modernized post harvesting equipment especially in size reduction. It is still in-use the traditional method way to grate sago where the capacity is limited. The objectives of this study were to design a mechanized grater sago with flat disc type and to evaluate the effects of pulley diameters namely: 6”, 8” and 10”  and grater teeth distance of 6 mm, 8 mm and 10 mm  concerning on power used in grating capacity of gater, grating efficien. Results of the designed mechine revealed that the mechine functions well considering less 0,83 HP used if combination pulley diameter 6” with grater teeth distance. Highest average to grating capacity when pulley diameter 6 “  with teeth distance 10 mm used was 132 kg/hr. statistical analysis also revealed that the used of variable pulley diameter was highly significant. Highest average grating  efficiency when pully diameter 10” with teeth distance 10 mm used was 90.833%.
