Bark of akway is a traditional medicine plant of Sougb tribe used to heal malaria. Leaves of akway were reported contain compound having anti diarrhea activity. The objectives of this research are to know antimicrobial activity of etanolic extract of akway bark on growth of Escherichia coli and to know the compounds composed the ethanolic extract of akway bark also potency of akway as source of natural antimicrobial agent. The result indicated that ethanolic extract of akway contains alkaloid, saponin, triterpenoid, flavonoid and tannin. The inhibition of ethanolic extract of akway bark tends to increase with the concentration increased up to concentration 20 %. The increase of concentration  more than 20 % will decrease the antimicrobial activity of ethanolic extract.of akway. Minimum Inhibitory concentration (MIC) of ethanolic extract of akway bark on E. coli ATCC43894 dan  E. coli ATCC10798 is 1.05 % and 1.26 % respectively. Heating of extract on temperature 100OC for 20 minute did not affect antimicrobial activity of extract.
