  • The Dental caries is a chronic progressive damage of hard tooth tissue. The Incidence of dental caries increases despite best efforts by dental professionals to reduce dental caries events. Children at 6-12 years old have a high risk of dental caries because at that age children have a habit of consuming a cariogenic food. This study aims to determine the relationship between the habit of tooth brushing and the consumption of cariogenic foods with the incidence of dental caries in children. This research used cross sectional approach. The sample in this study were elementary school students first grade until fourth grade in SDN Purwaraja 2 Kabupaten Pandeglang Indonesia as many as 50 respondent, simple random sampling technique was used. The result shows there is a significant correlation between teeth brushing habit with dental caries (p value = 0,000 ), while food consumption cariogenic no relationship with dental caries(p value = 0,741). The research also shows that children with a poor habit of tooth brushing have a risk 36,8 times for dental caries compared with children with the good habit of tooth brushing.
