- Increasing population in urban areas has increased the need for clean water. This can be seen from the increasing number of PDAM customers. To meet the needs of clean water, the PDAM utilizes water sources from Perhutani forest area which is also used by rural community to irrigate agricultural land. This article describe the social changes that occur in rural communities due to the shared use of water sources with PDAMs. This study shows that the shared use of these water sources has led to changes in pattern of agriculture and community agricultural commodities which initially planted rice throughout the year into mixed farming. The change also changed the structure of village communities because of the reduced need for agricultural labor. This change was greatly influenced by the shift in control of water as a material production base from the community to PDAM. The different ways of using water between communities (subsistence) and PDAMs (commercial) also causes community control over the certainty of water supply being weakened. Finally, to maintain the sustainability of community agriculture a mechanism is needed to regulate water supply for all parties so that the risk of changes that harm all parties can be avoided.
