- The objective of this research is to find out the. effects of Computer Assisted Instruction (CAl) strategies on science's learning retention by considering the students' learning styles. This experimental research used a 2 x 2 factorial design and participated by 240 student in randomly assigned from five public junior high schools (SMP Negeri)in four districts of Daerah lstimewa Yogyakarta. The number of samples who fitted in experimental cell criteria was 87 samples. The result of the hypothesis testing are as follows: (1) There is a significance difference of science's learning retention in the use of linear strategy compared to branching strategy of CAI; (2} There is an interaction effect for instructional strategies i s of CAI and learning styles toward science's learning retention. (3 Students who have an individual learning style have better science' learning retention when they used branching strategy of CAI as c pared to linear strategy of CAI; (4)There is no significance difference in science's learning retention for students who have small group (pairs) learning style when they used linear strategy of CAI compared to branching strategy of CAI.
