- This study investigates the students’ interest toward academic journal article. The aim of this study is to find out what students read in their leisure time, reasons they read academic journal article and factors affecting students’ lack of interest in reading academic journal article. The data was collected by implementing qualitative approach of oral structured interview. The participants of this study were eight senior students at English Education Department of Ar-Raniry State Islamic University. The results of this study showed that students had different reading interest. They chose to read academic journal article due to their assignments. The mean of reading academic journal article scale is 4.8 from 10 which is showed that students have serious lack of interest in reading academic journal article. Six from eight participants said that the difficult words and language used in academic journal article are the obstacles in reading academic journal article. The students chose dictionary, internet browsing, ask friends and lecturer, read a lot, guess the meaning, and read some parts of the journal article as their strategies in overcoming the difficulties of reading academic journal article.
