- This thesis is entitled ”The Implementation of Semantic Mapping Strategy in Mastering English Vocabulary”which aims to find out the improvement of the implementation of the Semantic Mapping Strategy in teaching Vocabulary and also to find out the students’ opinions about that strategy. This research was quantitative with pre-experimental design. To obtain the data, test and questionnaire were used. In selecting the sample, the writer used purposive sampling. The sample was the students in class IX-5 of MTsN 2 Aceh Besar which consisted of 28 students. To analyze the data Statistical analysis was used. The result of test showed that the mean score of pre test was 39.75, post test was 80.25 and the t-score is higher than t-table, namely 47.09 is higher than 1.703. This meant that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. Hence, using Semantic Mapping Strategy could improve the students’ ability in English vocabulary mastery. In addition, based on the analysis of questionnaires, it revealed that most of the students gave positive responses about Semantic Mapping Strategy in teaching vocabulary. Itmeans that the students got benefit from that strategy. It can be concluded that Semantic Mapping strategy did not only help students to improve their vocabulary, but also made students find ways in order to make it enjoyable and easy for them to memorize the words.
