- This research was conducted to study about rhetorical analysis in Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton’s speeches during the United States presidential election 2016. The writer aims to find out two main research questions; the type of Rethorical Appeals (Logos, Phatos, Ethos) used in the political speeches of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton and how Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton utilized the exigence as part of Rhetorical Situation in their speeches. Textual analysis is applied as a method to gain the data. In this research, the writer analysed four campaign speeches from Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Based on the finding, Both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton used more pathos (emotional appeal) as the tool to evoke people to vote. While the use of exigence determines the topics or issues which trigger the speaker to deliver the speech, each candidate has presented the urgency based on their preference toward a policy, motive, and purpose. However, the relations between Rhetorical Appeals and Rhetorical Situation create an effective persuasive provoking speech.
