  • This thesis entitles “The Implementation of Rote Learning (RL) Strategy in Memorizing Vocabulary for EFL Learners (A Study at Babul Maghfirah Boarding School)”. This study sets out to investigate the role of Rote Learning (RL) strategy in Vocabulary Learning strategies (VLs). The focus of the study is to seek a better strategy in enriching vocabulary. To obtain the data, the writer conducted a research at SMPS Babul Maghfirah boarding school Aceh Besar. The sample of this study was students in third level which consist of two classes. To gain the data, the writer used several techniques. They were; pre-test, daily test, post-test and questionnaires. After analyzing the results of test, it was found that there was a significant difference from the results of pre-test and post-test of both classes. The results of this study indicated that the students who used RL strategy had higher score (mean score: 58.89) than the students who used conventional strategy (mean score: 32.64). The mean score for post-test of experimental group increased 38.26 point from pre-test score (mean score: 20.63) and the mean score for post-test of control group only increased 12.07 point from pre-test score (mean score: 20.57). To sum up, the implementation of Rote Learning (RL) strategy is better than other strategies in improving students’ vocabulary. Meanwhile, the questionnaire results also showed that most of students liked Rote Learning (RL) as a strategy to increase their vocabulary.
