- The objectives of research were to identify the characteristic of literature cited by students in the writing of thesis. Paper found out the dominant literature cited, identified the language of literature cited, and identified the availability of the journal cited in e-journal database which are subscribed by Library of Gadjah Mada University. The approach used citation analysis. The study analyzed 322 citations from 8 thesis from Faculty of Geography, University of Gadjah Mada, in 2012. The result showed that books were the most cited (45,3%), than journal (19,2%), website (8,1%), thesis (6,2%), and the others. Literature in Indonesian language had been more often cited than that in English, but International journal (in English) cited more often than Indonesian Journal. 93,87% cited journal were available in journal database subscribed by Library of Gadjah Mada University.
