- Center for Scientific Documentation and Information Indonesian Institute of Sciences (PDII LIPI) is one ofthe institutions in Indonesia that has microfilm collection. Microfilm was believed as a long-term preservationmedia. PDII LIPI has converted their collection into microfilm for the preservation of library collection.Besides to preserve the collection, it aims to save the literature storage space and provide convenience to theuser in accessing information in the library. However, we face some difficulties in obtaining raw materials toproduce microfilm. We also met some problem in accessing microfilm collection. The microfilm reader is notin good condition anymore. Because of that, we want to know how other institutions in Indonesia managetheir microfilm. This study examines the situation of microfilm management at some institution in Indonesiain term of producing and accessing microfilm. We conduct an in-depth interview with five organizations thatstill have microfilm collection. Based on our finding, most of the institution also have difficulties to producemicrofilm. The development of information technology gives great impact on preservation media and accessinginformation. Two of the organizations transfer their microfilm collection become digital than providing accessto them through the internet.
