- Background : Indonesia is anxious country with the hazard exactly eartquake, because Indonesia is called Ring of Fire has three plates are plate of pacific, Eurasia and Indo-Australia. The children are vunerable groups on the disaster so that is needed a preparations to increase knowledge about preparedness of earthquake. Objective : Investigating the effect of health education about preparedness of earthquake on knowledge in student at state elementary school Patalan Baru subdistrict Jetis district Bantul. Method : The study was Pre Experimental and method used One group pretest posttest. Samples were 62 students taken by total sampling method. Data collected by questionnare. Data analysis was done by Wilcoxon test. Result : Before given a health education about preparedness of earthquake got most result on category “low” were 52 students (83.9%). Even after given a health education about preparedness of earthquake got a increasing of knowledge level were most result on category “middle” were 44 students (71.0%). Wilcoxon test showed count Z value were -6.764 with p value0.000 < = 0,05. This result showed that health education about preparedness of earthquake has effect of student knowledge. Conclusion : Health education about preparedness of earthquake has a significant effect on improving knowledge of student. Keyword : Health education, Preparedness of earthquake, Knowledge
