Keywords: Politeness Expressions, Gender In this study, the writer discusses “A Study of Politeness Expressions in English Communication (A Gender Based Analysis)”. The objectives of this study are to find out the politeness expressions used by male and male students of ninth grade, and more often in using politeness expressions among gender at Global Islamic Boarding School. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this research are students of ninth grade. The objects are the politeness expressions. To collect the data, the writer used observation technique. The data analysis was inductive. The writer found that there are six of the politeness expressions used by male and female students of ninth grade at Global Islamic Boarding School. Those are Softeners, Modal Verbs, Rephrasing a Negative Sentence, Qualifiers, Negative Question Forms and The Passive Voice. In addition, the female students use the politeness expressions are more often than the male students. It is proven by seven times of observation, the female students expressed 21 sentences of politeness expressions and the male students expressed 19 sentences of politeness expressions.
